SWAMPSCOTT – My Brother’s Table encourages community members to partake in the 9 Million Meals Walk on Oct. 19 and make the 3-mile trek along the Lynn and Swampscott shoreline.

Walkers will rally at The First Church in Swampscott Congregational, located on 40 Monument Ave., at 2 p.m., with check-in starting at 1:30 p.m. Participants will also have the opportunity, if they wish, to donate in support of the organization at mybrotherstable.org/walk.

First founded back in 1982, the organization is the largest soup kitchen throughout the North Shore. Through its mission, it aims to support the community with free meals, hospitality, and support. My Brother’s Table operates 365 days a year, enlists the help of over 1,500 volunteers, and is entirely privately funded.

Sponsors for the event this year include the following: Eastern Bank, Institution for Savings, Techno-Tax Inc., Lynn Community Health Center, and Fidelity Investments.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Marblehead Community Charter Public School (MCCPS) Navigators have made the walk a tradition.

“We’re hopeful that many people will participate and raise the funds we need to meet the demand which has increased again this September,” My Brother’s Table Executive Director Dianne Kuzia said. “We’re so grateful for the generous support of our local community. It is impossible to do our work without it.”

MCCPS Director of Food Services Dannette Russo said that “caring for our neighbors is a shared responsibility.”

She said, “Through our Little Free Food Pantry on campus, our Community Food Pantry at MCCPS, and an 8th-grade community service project that built a Little Free Food Pantry for our neighbors at Farrell Court, our students and staff work together to help ensure access to food and basic necessities for those in need.”

Russo continued, saying that the organization’s walk is “a natural extension of that mission.”

“My Brother’s Table has long been a vital resource in our community, and we’re proud to support their work as part of our school’s ongoing commitment to community service and compassion in action,” Russo added.
