LYNN – Lynn Main Streets has selected the winner for its Downtown Banner Project contest.

The winning piece, submitted by Schneider Narcisse, is a vibrant drawing that depicts various Lynn Museum and Arts Center employees as wide-eyed cartoons.

Narcisse, 19, is a longtime Lynn resident and Lynn Museum and Arts Center summer youth program employee. He has been drawing since elementary school, and describes his artistry as “energetic and imaginative.”

He first saw the call for art inquiry on Lynn Main Street’s social media in August and brainstormed what to create for the contest for two weeks. Two days before the contest’s deadline, he decided to scrap his previous ideas and draw his beloved coworkers, whose different faces and backgrounds represent the Lynn community.

“I really can’t think of any other place that does community like the Lynn Museum, so I thought that this was the best fit. I love my community. Everybody I meet around the city is the nicest person ever,” Narcisse said.

He added, “One thing about Lynn that’s really nice is that there are a bunch of fantastic people and artists everywhere. I am always proud to say that I am an artist in Lynn because of events and moments like this.”

Narcisse said he was “ecstatic” when he found out he won the Downtown Banner Project Contest.

“I was keeping an open mind,” he said. “I wasn’t sure if I was qualified, but I put in all those hours, and it paid off.”

Lynn Main Streets Co-Founder Samantha Wheeler-McHugh praised Narcisse’s work for capturing the culture of the city.

“At Lynn Main Streets, we are proud to celebrate the creativity of our community through the Downtown Lynn Banner Project. Schneider’s artwork reflects the spirit and pride of Lynn, and we are excited to see it showcased on Exchange Street for all to enjoy,” Wheeler-McHugh said.

The banners, which will be displayed along Exchange Street, are meant to “enhance the visual appeal and celebrate the unique spirit of Lynn.” Details regarding the opening ceremony celebrating the Downtown Lynn Banner Project will be announced soon.
