The Frank Kelley Invitational, held at Wrentham Developmental Center this past weekend, was a success for local cross country programs.
Marblehead’s Marrietta O’Connell captured first place in the 3,000m senior race, clocking a time of 10:54.12 for a brilliant performance. Second place belonged to Bishop Fenwick’s Marianna Kay, who sported a stellar time of 11:08.27.
Fenwick saw more success, starting with Adelaide Sweatman (6th – 3,000m junior – 11:12.96). Olivia Rowe and Caroline Blatchford also impressed. On the boys’ side, Deven Dion ran the 3,000m freshman race in 11:02.19, while Sam Appleyard (35th) clocked in at 10:38.99 in senior competition.
The Lynnfield girls were led by Abby Lopez, who finished 12th among 87 seniors with a time of 11:49:52. For the boys, Nick Degennaro (47th – 3,000m senior – 10:55.93) led the charge.
St. John’s Prep’s Jack McIntosh (9:23), Leo Seltenrich (9:25), and Mateo DeOrio (9:28) recorded top-five finishes in their respective races.
Peabody’s Luke Murphy won the freshman (Large) race in 9:59.11.

Undefeated: no more. The Prep defeated previously-unbeaten Longmeadow at Glatz Field Saturday. Ryan King scored a pair of first-half goals, assisted by Matt LeBlanc and James Minor.
Minor, Ryan Levis, Gus Nugent, and Andrew Wentzil played strong defense in front of netminder Matt Droggitis, who saved three shots to earn his sixth shutout. Midfielders Finn McCabe and Owen Beeny also played well.

This one couldn’t be settled on the scoreboard. Eve Byrne played well between the pipes for Swampscott, according to third-year coach Jaymie Caponigro.
“We had a strong performance across the field,” she said.

It was a tough one for Lynnfield, which met its match at Pioneer Stadium against a strong Monomoy side, which scored in every quarter. Olivia Sylvester made six saves and faced eight corners to lead the hosts.
