You know what I’ve been thinking? When I chatted with Lynn Tech football coach James Runner this past summer, I asked him about players poised to perform during the fall.
His answer was quick and easy: Colin McGough.
The 5-9, 160-pound player – who contributes on both sides of the ball – had himself a game Saturday night. In the Tigers’ 20-6 win against Monty Tech, McGough compiled 165 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Oh. Just 11 touches. That’s an average of 15 yards per carry . . .
“The offense opens up guys on any given night. This was Colin’s night and I think it’s important for him to have these opportunities,” said Runner, whose group stands at 2-0. “I’m excited for the kids. We’ve been working hard and had a really tough camp. We told the kids about the expectations we wanted. I think it’s paid off these last few weeks.”
According to Runner, McGough has a “no-fear mentality” as a team leader. After a four-win season last year, the Tigers are already knocking on that record’s door.
Will the Tigers make it 3-0 come Saturday night’s home game against Saugus, or will the Sachems (0-2) snatch their first win?
Colin, good week.
