Roundup: St. Mary’s volleyballers score revenge after 18 years

In back-and-forth set scores of 25-21, 18-25, 17-25, 25-16, and 16-14, St. Mary’s red-hot volleyball team (5-3) defeated traditional archrival Bishop Fenwick, 3-2, Tuesday evening.

Not only did the Spartans win their fourth consecutive match, but snatched their first victory against Fenwick in 18 years.

St. Mary’s was paced by Gabriella Lorenzini (16 kills, 4 aces, 12 digs, 9 service points), Valeria Morillo (4 kills, 2 aces, 10 digs, 10 service points, 33 assists), Sky Watson (7 kills, 3 aces, 16 digs, 9 service points), and Vanessa Magloire (2 aces, 18 digs, 4 assists).

VOLLEYBALL

Lynn Tech 3
Minuteman 0

Lynn Tech (7-2) got the job done in consecutive set scores of 25-22, 25-13, and 25-10. Helping the cause were Zahara Belizaire (16 assists, 5 kills, 3 aces, 3 digs), Katie Tartarini (7 kills, 6 aces), Lia Morales (10 digs, 4 kills, ace), Niya Bingham (6 kills), and Mahlyna Williams (5 digs).

BOYS SOCCER

Lynn Classical 0

Tuesday evening’s road matchup was a “tough game,” according to Classical coach Eric Moreno. His Rams met their match in Greater Boston League action.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lowell Catholic 4
Lynn Tech 3

Despite Lynn Tech goals from Angie Niz, Emelyn Garcia, and Emily Zacarias, the Tigers fell a goal short at Manning Field.

GOLF

Lynn Classical 33.5
Everett 11.5

The Rams (1-3) entered the win column behind strong performances from Brayden Curley, Finn Dalferro, Johnny Doyle, and freshman Michael Kelley.

Call it a successful Senior Day for the Spartans, who improved to 4-5 behind strong shooting from Bobby MacAulay (30), Micah Hashikawa (28), Stephen Nason (28), Luke Malcuit (28), and Dalton Diozzi (25).

St. John’s Prep 225
St. John’s Shrewsbury 233

St. John’s Prep upped its record to 6-1 with a tight win against St. John’s Shrewsbury. Leading the Eagles were Seamus O’Holleran (36), Jack Moriarty (36), and AJ Bodnar (37).

CROSS COUNTRY

St. Mary’s had itself a day in Lynn Woods. The girls (3-1) defeated Arlington Catholic, 15-50, and Bishop Stang, 21-37, behind top finishers Kelsey Kwiatek, Nina Lopes, Mia Tatis, and Sarah Terrien. The boys (3-1) beat Arlington Catholic, 21-36, and Stang, 25-32, with Cristian Rodriguez, Kevin Cahill, Xavier Paula, and Matt Nowak leading the way.

The Bishop Fenwick girls suffered their first loss of the season, 23-38, to “a very deep and talented Bishop Feehan squad,” according to Fenwick coach Fred Doyle. Adelaide Sweatman and Marianna Kay secured second and third place, respectively. On the boys’ side, they fell to Feehan in a 20-37 final. Sam Appleyard (3rd), John Reilly (6th), Deven Dion (7th), and Doron Appleyard (9th) led the Crusaders.

St. John’s Prep defeated Malden Catholic, 19-44, at Pine Banks Park (5K) in Malden. Top finishers for The Prep were Dimitri Profis (1st – 18:24), Colton Friedlander (3rd), Lukas Cleary (4th), and Dylan Power (5th).
