SWAMPSCOTT — The Town is encouraging community members to attend a public forum on Sept. 29 to hear about the hotel development at the former Hadley Elementary School site. Renderings of the new structure will be presented, and residents can share concerns or ask questions about the process.
The school officially closed its doors in 2024 and was replaced by the new consolidated Swampscott Elementary School.
Community and Economic Development Director Marzie Galazka and Town Planner Christa McGaha discussed the background of the development.
“We went through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process to seek a developer to come on board for the project, and the Select Board negotiated a Land Disposition Agreement (LDA) for the use of the site,” Galazka explained. “Now, the developer (Delmar Hotels) has a new set of renderings that they wanted to share.”
Galazka noted Delmar Hotels is required to share the renderings with residents as part of the LDA in order to seek public comment on the project.
She continued, saying that the new development will see exciting elements such as a spa, a function/dining room, and a roof deck with sitting areas.
“A major change will be the addition of the elevator that would bridge the two buildings (the original school building and the annex building that was later added on) together,” Galazka said. She added that other than that, it’s her understanding that the structure will remain the same.
McGaha encouraged residents to check out the “Hadley Reuse Project” page on the Town’s website in order to analyze the schematics published so far.
“They can also learn more about the developer that was chosen for the project,” McGaha said. “Delmar Hotels will be looking for public input as the project continues.”
Galazka added that there’s a play structure located on the site that, which the town is looking to possibly relocate, noting that the town is working to find an area for relocation.
“We’re excited and looking forward to the next phase of the project, working with the development team to advance the project,” Galazka said.
