ROUNDUP: Marblehead volleyball sweeps Danvers

Marblehead improved to 6-2 after defeating Northeastern Conference rival Danvers 3-0 on Thursday.

The Magicians won in straight sets 25-14, 25-5, 25-10. Sydney Faris led the team with five aces and 14 digs, while Lila Moniz had what head coach Killeen Miller called “a terrific night,” finishing with 19 kills on 40 swings. Greta Sachs (5) and Mari Modryznksa (6) combined for 11 kills, and Eva Burke added 26 assists.

VOLLEYBALL

Peabody 3

Beverly 0

Peabody improved to 5-3 after sweeping Beverly 25-21, 25-21, 25-14. Lizzy Bettencourt led the way with 18 kills, 14 digs and nine service points. Sydney Lynch added 13 digs and 13 service points.

Arlington Catholic 3

St. Mary’s 0

Arlington Catholic defended its home court with a sweep of St. Mary’s. The Spartans entered on a four-game winning streak but dropped to 5-4 with the loss.

Lynn Tech 3

Lowell Catholic 0

Lynn Tech (8-2) swept Lowell Catholic 25-18, 25-17, 25-22. Zahara Belizaire recorded 19 assists, 10 digs, two kills and an ace. Lia Morales finished with 12 digs, six aces and six kills, while Mahlyna Williams had 10 digs. Kaylee Deschamps added five kills and two blocks.

Swampscott 3

Saugus 0

Swampscott defeated Saugus 25-9, 25-17, 25-20 in Northeastern Conference play. Eliana Young had five kills, while Jamie Andrews (7 aces, kill, 6 digs) and Hayden Haskell (12 digs, ace) also contributed for the Big Blue. 

BOYS SOCCER

Beverly 3

Saugus 0

The game was tied at zero late in the first half before a deflected shot gave Beverly the lead at halftime. The Panthers added two more goals in the second half to seal the win.

Lynnfield 1

Ipswich 1

Ollie Morgan scored for Lynnfield off an assist from Rocco Scenna. The Pioneers are now 5-1-3.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lynn Tech 5

Minuteman 2

Emily Zacarias scored four goals to lead Lynn Tech past Minuteman on the road. Zacarias tallied the Tigers’ first four goals before Minuteman scored twice in the second half. Emely De Leon added a late goal to secure the win.

Lynn Classical 2

Lynn English 1

Mia Duncan scored off an assist from McKenna Duncan to give Lynn Classical the lead at Manning Field. Tatiana De Leon doubled the advantage before Lynn English pulled one back.

Aliyah Alvarado made three saves in net for the Rams.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lynnfield 2

Ipswich 0

Lauren Mattia scored in the first quarter and Nola Maney added another in the second to lift Lynnfield.

Bridget McGee made her first varsity start in goal, recording six saves and her first shutout while facing one penalty corner.

GOLF

Medford 45

Lynn Classical 27

Lynn Classical fell to Medford. Andrew Lang won his match 6.5-2.5 for the Rams, while Brayden Curley and Braeden Ohannesian were the low scorers.

CROSS COUNTRY

Marblehead 26

Beverly 33

The Marblehead boys team picked up its first win of the season. Henrik Adams placed third, followed by Will Cruikshank (4th), Zach Pike (5th) and Filip Grubor (6th).

Marblehead hosts Salem on Tuesday.
