The St. Mary’s girls and Bishop Fenwick boys cross country teams ran their way to Catholic Central League Middle School/Freshman/Sophomore titles Tuesday.
At Fenwick’s home course in Peabody, St. Mary’s girls were led by Nina Lopes (1st), Mia Tatis (2nd), Sarah Terrien (6th), Tina Leuzzi (13th), and Siena-Rose Summa (15th).
The Fenwick boys placed four runners in the top 10: Deven Dion, Chris Kay, Louis DellaGatta, and Jackson Faitella.
St. Mary’s placed second in boys’ competition behind Cristian Rodriguez (1st), Max Martel (9th), Luke Fitzgerald (11th), Jacob Amoedo (13th), and Anthony DellaPorta (18th).
“What a great day for the program to show off our bright future,” said St. Mary’s coach Tristan Smith. “To have both individual champions and the girls placing first and the boys placing second in close meets makes me proud of what this group has accomplished and what they will achieve going forward.”
CROSS COUNTRY
The Marblehead boys (2-3) defeated Salem, 19-42, on their home course Tuesday. The Magicians were led by a first-place finish from captain Will Cruikshank. He was followed by Zach Pike (3rd), Filip Grubor (4th), Isaac Durand (5th), Colin Hart (6th), and Thomas Svencer (7th).
Both the Peabody boys (3-0-1) and girls (3-1) defeated Beverly. In a 25-36 final, the boys were led by Aidan Trainor, Luke Murphy, Osama Mishal, Matt McCusker, Jackson Guerriero, Mohamed Lhassouani, and Logan George. The girls were paced by one-two finishers Lauren Foley and Ella Braz, as well as Maya Sutton, Lily Murphy, and CeCe Toda.

In a “really good team win,” according to Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe, his Pioneers (6-1-3) took down Newburyport behind first- and second-half goals from Rocco Scenna.
“I thought our defense played well, especially Ben Clancy,” Munroe said. “I’d also like to point out Brendan Reilly, who set up the second goal pretty late in the game.”

Joe Decesare scored his first goal of the season as the Eagles flew over Shrewsbury. Garrison Murphy dished out the assist, while Matt Droggitis (6 saves) recorded his seventh shutout of the fall.

Lynnfield upped its record to 7-2 with a Cape Ann League victory in Newburyport.
Ava Damiani (from Giada Antidormi) scored 39 seconds into the first half off a corner kick. Newburyport scored in the 10th minute, but the Pioneers took the lead for good when Bella Sykes potted one in the 67th minute (from Ella Pascucci and Bella Clancy).
“What a game,” said Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont, who added Kaylee Barrett played a strong game. “Victoria Minor, in goal for us, came up huge. She had seven saves. Two were on corner kicks and one was a breakaway. The shots she had to stop were goal-scoring opportunities. Defensively, we worked hard and played really well. Having that foundation in the back has been great for us.”
