LTTE: Celebrate Frederick Douglass

To the editor

October 1, 2025 by To the editor

To the editor:

I was rewarded Wednesday, Oct. 1 for reading The Daily Item as an important part of my morning ritual. Please see the article “Frederick Douglass family honors Lynn Legacy” from the Sept. 30 edition.

Frederick Douglass’ influence on our United States history continues. I am encouraged to see the next generation being given the gift of knowing Frederick Douglass and his immense influence in the destruction of the repugnant system of slavery in our country. The current repression of truth about our history and whitewashing about the awful nature of slavery by this current Trump administration is a despicable campaign that needs to be stopped.

Seeing Kenneth B. Morris Jr., the great-great-great grandson of Frederick Douglass, continuing the teaching about Frederick Douglass and encouraging activism is uplifting. As part of eight generations of the Lynn family, I appreciate Jackie Manno authoring this article. Well done! Lynn’s two museums and their committed and professional leadership are an immense resource that makes a lot of this truth-telling possible.
