October 1, 2025 by Mark Aboyoun

The Pioneers earned a Cape Ann League win over Triton 6-0 on the road. Cameron Munion opened the scoring 45 seconds in off a pass from Sophia Morgese.

Morgese then scored off an Izzy Fiorentino assist to double the lead. Munion added her second in the second quarter on a feed from Grace Allen, who later scored herself.

There were also several firsts for Lynnfield. Senior Erin Golden scored her first varsity goal in the third quarter, while Zoe O’Brien registered her first varsity assist. Stefania Bonavita also scored.

Bridget McGee had nine saves in the shutout.

“Commendable play by the Pioneers’ backfield Chloe Bergeron, Nola Maney, Addie Wolf and Hayden Valiton in preserving the shutout against a strong ‘big ball’ Triton team,” Lynnfield coach Kerri Doherty said.

Gloucester couldn’t stop Shawn Sewell who scored four goals en route to victory. Sewell’s sister, Shaylyn, chipped in with a goal and two assists, while Natlie Justice and Sydney Deleidi both registered an assist.

Maria Garcia, Justice, and Amanda Rezendes “had a solid game on defense and controlling the tempo” according to head coach April Martinez.

Martinez also praised her team in improving building out from the back and working hard in practice.

Winthrop 5

Lynn Tech 2

The Vikings were too much for the Tigers (5-6) at Manning Field. Winthrop scored first, but the Tigers clawed back and scored the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead after goals from sophomore Emily Zacarias and senior Angie Niz.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, Winthrop equalized before halftime and then added three more goals in the second half to take home the win.

The goal scorers for the Vikings were Ana Clara Freitas (2), Angela Coscia (2), and Giuliana Grimaldi.

VOLLEYBALL

Lynn Classical 3

Lynn Classical (11-2) stayed unbeaten in the Greater Boston League (8-0) with a sweep of Medford (25-16, 25-20, 25-21).

The Rams got personal best performances from Nicole Gonzalez and Tatiana Ly to help power the team to its first win.

On the boys side, despite a first place finish, by over a minute from Brandon Sok, the Rams lost to Chelsea 20-40.

Lynnfield

Both the boys and girls cross country teams defeated Georgetown. Georgetown only had two runners but Lynnfield still “ran very well” according to head coach Liane Cook said.

Taking first place was Maeve Wertz who finished with a 21:56 time. Sophie Kennison placed second with a 23:00 time. According to Cook, every runner ran a personal best compared to the last time they ran at home back in early September.

On the boys side, the Pioneers won 27-30. Nick DeGennaro’s time of  17:50 was fast enough for first place. Rowan Beyer (18:06) and Jason Tran’s 18:26 was good enough for fourth and fifth to power Lynnfield past Georgetown.
