Lynnway project discussion back on track for Nahant

Zach Laird

October 3, 2025 by Zach Laird

NAHANT — The town is encouraging community members to partake in the Lynnway Multimodal Corridor project public forum at Town Hall on Oct. 9.

Lasting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., it will be a chance for the community to learn more about the Lynnway project. Owned and operated by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Lynnway is the main connector of the town through the Lynnway rotary and Nahant Road.

Currently, the Lynnway is a six- or seven-lane thoroughfare and primarily a motor-vehicle route, creating challenges for pedestrians, cyclists, and bus riders. The ultimate goal is to establish a multimodal corridor that supports the long-term vision of a safer, more accessible town.

The MBTA initially received a $20 million federal grant for the project back in 2022. It should be noted that the work for the project will be done in Lynn.

What the MBTA is proposing is a significant investment to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians, as well as create faster and more reliable bus service for community members, with protected bike lanes that connect to the Northern Strand Trail in Lynn and Nahant Beach.

Attendees will have the chance to ask MBTA staff questions about the process and share any of their thoughts or concerns, though there will be no formal presentation made, with the focus instead being an “open house” style forum.

In the past, previous public forums regarding Lynnway projects have helped staff receive feedback on potential impacts to residents and the community.

Residents will also have the opportunity to fill out physical copies of feedback forms to provide the MBTA with more information about how the town might be affected by the project.

“I encourage residents to attend this Open House to discuss their concerns and have questions answered by representatives of the MBTA,” Acting Town Administrator Alison Nieto said.
