Rap trio feels the love in Lynn

LYNN – Rappers C4, Boss Lady Gi, and Gigi K feel the love in Lynn.

Lynn English High School graduate C4 has been rapping since 2017, when he dropped his single “Headlock.” Since then, he has opened up for artists such as Asian Doll, Rubi Rose, and Foolio.

C4 met rapper Boss Lady Gigi at Lynn English, and they later connected with Salem-based rapper Gigi K. They quickly formed a friendship where they support each other’s careers through networking, and often perform at the same venues together.

Gigi K has been writing music since she was 12 years old, and has dropped singles such as “I Know,” “Way Out,” and “Get to You” in 2024.

Meanwhile, Boss Lady Gi was featured on C4’s upbeat track “Freak Remix” this year.

“I like to experiment with versatility in different genres. That track had a different vibe than I’m used to, and I loved the amazing opportunity to get creative,” Boss Lady Gi said. “My future plan is to start putting 100 percent into my music.”

While all three rappers have different artistic influences and styles, they share the goal of using their music for self-expression.

C4 has been influenced by rappers such as Lil Wayne, Drake, and J Cole. However, another integral part of his music is his roots in the city of Lynn.

“I’m Dominican and Puerto Rican, so my family listens to a lot of salsa and bachata. I’ve been exposed to a lot of different cultures when it comes to music, which has definitely inspired me to put my own spin on what I’ve already been exposed to. Lynn is a great city for that, because it feels like you have the world in one place,” C4 said.

“My mission is to bring a better life to my family and real friends, while also changing the narrative of Lynn in a more positive light than the negative attention that we receive,” he added.

Boss Lady Gi grew up with rappers such as Lil Durk and Nicki Minaj, and has closely studied them as artists who have found major success in the music industry. Lyric wise, she also lets her personal experiences in Lynn fuel her creativity.

“I’ve watched how certain artists go about marketing and presenting themselves. We’re all just students, learning how to be better every day” Boss Lady Gi said. “I take the things that I’ve been through in Lynn and turn that into my music.”

As for Gigi K, she creates music to embrace her identity as someone in the LGBTQ community.

“I came out when I was very young, and I didn’t know how to express that. I have a spiritual connection with Chris Brown’s work, he helped me break out of my shell. So I started writing music about the same sex, and started feeling comfortable talking about women and different situations I’ve been in,” Gigi K said.

Taking their songs from the recording studio to the stage, the three have found that Lynn crowds have a particular “supportive” energy in the atmosphere.

“We are amongst our friends and family, so we get a lot of love from the Lynn crowds. So it’s always good, always pure,” C4 said.

They have also learned how to navigate unpredictable energies when performing in different areas around the state.

“It’s different energy where you are. People already know me when I perform back at home, but it’s different when a crowd doesn’t know you. The crowds are starting to know who we are. They’re opening their eyes to giving other artists out there a chance,” Gigi K said.

“We don’t have control over the crowd, we only have control over ourselves. As long as you’re putting one hundred percent where you’re feeling fulfilled at the end of your performance, that’s all that matters,” Boss Lady Gi said.

Putting in one hundred percent during live shows further fuels their songwriting creativity, as they see their hard work pay off through the audience.

“There’s thought put into the stage work and the movements. We don’t just run around, we have a choreographed plan. When we execute those things, we’ve seen the outcome of the work with the crowd screaming for us and singing our lyrics back to us. And that’s a beautiful thing,” C4 said.

“Now I’ve gotten past wondering if people actually like my music. I’ve seen that people can relate and dance to it. Seeing that result, it makes the music making process easier,” he added.
