Last week, the Lynn English and KIPP Academy football teams secured their first wins, but they didn’t stop there. Momentum carried over to Friday night as English (2-2) defeated Revere, 43-19, and KIPP (2-3) took down Hull, 40-10.

Revere started strong and built an early 14-7 lead, but from there, the Bulldogs found their offensive rhythm at Manning Field.

English quarterback Shane Knowlton-Simard (141 yards rushing) stayed red-hot with a four-touchdown performance. Xavier Beauchamp compiled 110 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

As for the Panthers, coach Jim Rabbitt couldn’t have been happier before a long bus ride home.

“We played really well. It was great to have a complete game and put one together on the road,” he said. “They’re a well-coached team and it was a great effort overall across all three phases of the game.”

Leading KIPP was Aavian Peña, who carried 13 times for 148 yards and a touchdown. Elai Machado rushed for two scores and threw a touchdown pass. Joan Ortiz scored twice, including a 30-yarder on a reverse.

Katrell Fortes recorded three interceptions defensively.

“Guys were flying around on defense,” Rabbitt said. “They (Pirates) scored in the fourth quarter, but we pretty much kept them out of the end zone all day.”

Despite a touchdown reception from Peabody’s Mark Mendonca (from Luke Maglione), the Tanners’ struggles continued with a loss in enemy territory. Peabody had no answer for Masconomet’s high-powered offense, and the Tanners fell to 0-5.

KIPP’s Jossue Giron Lopez dished out four assists in the Panthers’ convincing win, putting him at six goals and six assists across his last six games. Juan Ospina continued his “breakout season,” according to KIPP coach Josh Canales, with a hat-trick, while Jonathan Morales, Dennis Matul, and Joseph Matul also scored.

“This puts us at two wins in a row after a not-so-pretty start, and we’re looking to make it three,” Canales said.

“I’m so proud of the way our team played today,” said Marblehead coach Ali Carey. “The Peabody squad has such great energy. We really enjoy the competition their team brings. We continue to work on our mental skills along with our stick and field skills, and we could see the progress today.”

Peabody captain Chris Troncoso “had a beautiful, unassisted goal,” according to Tanners’ coach Jill Tobin, while Sophia Kassis made 11 saves.
