LTTE: Why challenge Sen. Markey’s proven leadership?

To The Editor

October 6, 2025 by To The Editor

To the editor:

Why would a Democratic Representative in the U.S. House contemplate challenging highly respected and effective Democratic U.S. Senator Ed Markey? This is a question that challenges my reasoning.

Recently, I heard that U.S. Congressman Seth Moulton, a Democrat, was contemplating such a challenge. WHY?

Why would one sitting Democrat challenge one of the most effective, ethical, and admired democratic members of the U.S. Senate, Ed Markey?

During these divisive and challenging times in our country, is this what one should be focussing on? Why?

Is there a pressing problem requiring voters to dismiss the stunning accomplishments this sincere, ethical, and hardworking public servant has delivered on our behalf during his service to us and his country these many years? Why?

Sen. Markey has always stood front and center on the tough issues and continues to do so to this day!

So again I ask: WHY?

There are so many pressing issues facing Americans these days… health care, the economy, lack of affordable housing, cuts to food pantries, support programs for children and families, assaults on our justice system, climate change, racism, and the list goes on and on unfortunately.

I should think it more important to challenge these issues rather than a sitting Congressman who continues to stand front and center challenging these issues that need addressing NOW!

And this is the personal opinion of an elder voter who values the wisdom of aging.
