LYNN — Massachusetts Commissioner of Education Pedro Martinez visited Lynn Vocational Technical Institute on Tuesday and heard from students what they like best about their vocational education experience.
Student Bryan Belloso told Martinez, “Tech does a fantastic job guiding you to find what your passion is” by offering 9th-graders the chance to rotate through all the shops before selecting one.
Dana Hurley, president of the school’s chapter of SkillsUSA, a group focused on leadership, technical skills, and community service, said she “loves the environment Tech offers and having the experience of getting academic and hands-on learning.”
Martinez talked to the students about ongoing efforts to ensure students are prepared when they graduate, especially with the elimination of the MCAS as a graduation requirement. Student Alexavier Saldana, who is studying health assisting, said Tech “has overprepared me for the real world.”
Mayor Jared C. Nicholson and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Evonne S. Alvarez were part of the group welcoming Martinez to Lynn.
