From the night of Oct. 6 to the night of Oct. 13, many Jews will be observing the Sukkot Festival (Feast of Booths) by eating meals in booths with rooftops consisting of a sparse covering of plant material. The covering is thin enough to look up from within the Sukkah hut and see the sky. This is to follow the biblical verses:
Leviticus Chapter 23: verses 42-43
“Ye shall dwell in booths seven days…That your generations may know that I housed the Children of Israel in booths when I took them out of Egypt…”
