The Lynn Tech/KIPP Academy boys cross country team secured the Commonwealth Athletic Conference championship in Lynn Woods Thursday. The co-op – which won the title for the first time in five years – defeated Mystic Valley, 16-44, after placing eight runners in the top 10.
No one was faster than Liban Abdikadir, who delivered “his best race of the year,” according to coach John Hogan, with a first-place time of 20.51 across the 3.1-mile course.
Following for the boys (4-0) were Xavier Ortiz (2nd – 21.01), Christian Nunez (3rd – 21.12), Angel Rivera (4th – 21.13), Emerson Ramirez (6th – 21.19), Bryan De Paz (7th – 22.09), Keyther Pujols (9th – 22.26), and Alexis Cano (10th – 22.48).
The Tech/KIPP girls (3-1) won, 19-38, and captured second place in the CAC. Leading the way were Wilmarlyn Fernandez (1st – 25.00), Irene Delva (3rd – 26.05), Faith Akianami (4th – 28.19), Daisy Zarate (5th – 28.52), Anyeli Vasquez (6th – 29.09), Emily Sodabanh (9th – 30.32), and Kissairy Crespo (10th – 32.22).
GOLF
Masconomet won Thursday’s Northeastern Conference Open at Bass Rocks Golf Club with Chieftains Cole Velardo (79) and Brendan Sheehen (72) leading the way. Beverly and Marblehead tied for second place with Tyler Forbes (78) shooting well for the Magicians. Winthrop took fourth, while Mike Collins and Tyler Ostroff (80) guided Swampscott to sixth place. Peabody placed seventh and Saugus tied for eighth.

Lynnfield (11-2) jumped all over Rockport in enemy territory. Ava Damiani and Giada Antidormi tucked two goals apiece, while Kathleen Brown and Ella Pascucci also found the back of the net. Defender Sarah Mitchell secured her first varsity point with a “really nice” assist, according to coach Mark Vermont.
“To say it was windy would be an understatement,” Vermont said. “It was a good win.”

Bridget McGee (7 saves) secured her sixth shutout of the season and faced six penalty corners. Pioneers Nola Maney, Chloe Bergeron, Addie Wolf, and Hayden Valiton played well defensively.
