LYNN — The 10th annual Lynn Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, “Proud of My Hispanic Heritage,” will take place at City Hall at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The event will consist of a parade of flags from Lynn Common to the Lynn Auditorium and a ceremony of poetry, music, and dances from several Latin countries. Awards will be given to Outstanding Latino and Latino Pride recipients, followed by a reception.
The Proud of My Hispanic Heritage Celebration was started in 2016 at Breed Middle School by Spanish teacher Magalie Rowe, alongside the students of the Spanish National Junior Honor Society and support from Principal Julie Louf. This year’s partners include Boys & Girls Club of Lynn, Lawrence Staffing Services, Latina Center Maria, and Full Color Signs and Graphics.
Rowe created the event so that Lynn Hispanic students could “celebrate their culture, language, and identity — something many bilingual and bicultural young people struggle to embrace. This event provides representation, nurtures pride, and fosters a strong sense of community and voice for our students.”
