To the editor:
I am writing to express my wholehearted support for Tristan Smith for the Lynn School Committee. As someone who has known Tristan in both academic and personal settings, I have seen firsthand the kind of leadership, empathy, and dedication he brings to every space he’s in.
Tristan was my high school track coach, and from the very beginning, he stood out as more than just a coach; he was a mentor and an advocate. He pushed his students to pursue excellence not only on the track but also in the classroom and beyond. His catch phrase in coaching: “You matter” always stuck out to me, as he consistently reminds each athlete of their importance no matter how small their role may be. His encouragement played a major role in shaping my own goals and confidence, even supporting my ambitions to attend law school. I had the privilege of shadowing him one day while he was at Suffolk Law, and it only reaffirmed my admiration for his commitment to learning, service, and community.
Tristan understands the importance of creating opportunity and equity within Lynn Public Schools. His passion for education and youth empowerment, paired with his genuine care for students’ growth and well-being, make him the right fit for the School Committee. He listens, he leads with heart, and he inspires those around him to reach their fullest potential.
Lynn needs leaders like Tristan. leaders who know the challenges our students face, who have walked alongside them, who are ready to take thoughtful action to make lasting change, and who emphasize that every kid matters. I urge voters to join me in supporting Tristan Smith for Lynn School Committee on Nov. 4.
Sincerely,
Aalina Tejada Lara
