LYNN — Lynn Main Streets will be hosting a dog costume contest on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Mt. Vernon Street and Exchange Street. Furry friends and their owners will be invited to a Halloween-themed morning celebrating community, creativity, and Downtown Lynn.

Prizes will be awarded to pooches with best overall costume, funniest costume, and spookiest costume.

Lynn Main Streets Co-Founder Samantha Wheeler-McHugh gave tips to dog owners hoping to take home the top prize.

“(The costumes) should focus on creativity, comfort, and personality. Costumes that reflect a dog’s unique character, include fun details, or coordinate with their owner tend to stand out,” Wheeler-McHugh said.

She also detailed what the contest will bring to the community.

“Lynn Main Streets was inspired to host the Dog Costume Contest as a fun, seasonal way to bring the community together, celebrate Halloween, and encourage people to visit and shop in Downtown Lynn. The event also supports the organization’s mission to create a vibrant, welcoming downtown through creative and family-friendly activities,” she said.

Wheeler-McHugh added, “Lynn Main Streets is the ideal organization to host the Dog Costume Contest because its mission centers on building community and promoting a lively, welcoming downtown. As a volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to supporting local businesses and creating engaging public events, Lynn Main Streets is perfectly positioned to organize a fun, inclusive activity that brings residents together, attracts visitors, and encourages people to explore and shop in Downtown Lynn.”

When it comes to the event, Wheeler-McHugh advised that participants be proactive with their dog costume planning.

“People should sign up prior to ensure their spot in the contest, help organizers plan for a smooth event, and avoid last-minute delays on the day of the competition. Early registration also guarantees that participants receive all event updates and instructions ahead of time, making the experience more enjoyable for both dogs and their owners,” she said.

Registration for the Lynn Main Streets downtown dog costume contest opens at 10 a.m., with the contest beginning promptly at 11 a.m. Participants can pre-register online at forms.gle/senzYJL9YpJttx2aA or sign up on-site the morning of the event.
