The St. John’s Prep cross country team raced in Tuesday’s Catholic Conference Championship held at the Wrentham Developmental Center. The Prep won the varsity 5K race with 29 points, followed by BC High (37), Catholic Memorial (66), Xaverian Brothers (107), Saint John’s Shrewsbury (126), and Malden Catholic (169). Top finishers for the Eagles were Jack McIntosh (15:27), Liam Mahoney (15:47), Henry McDonnell (15:48), Leo Seltenrich (15:49), Liam Callahan (16:05), Sam Valentine (16:24), and Hunter Opal (16:28).
CROSS COUNTRY
The Peabody boys (6-0-1) won by tiebreaker against Masconomet (28-28 score) at Bradley Palmer State Park, clinching the Northeastern Conference Dunn Division title for the Tanners. Six Peabody runners finished in the top 10 – Mohamed Lhassouani (1st), Matt McCusker (5th), Luke Murphy (6th), Osama Mishal (7th), Jackson Guerriero (9th), Aidan Trainor (10th) – while Logan George also ran well. On the girls’ side, Peabody (6-1) defeated Masconomet, 25-30, with five Tanners placing in the top 10: Lauren Foley (2nd), Ella Braz (3rd), Lily Murphy (5th), Maya Sutton (6th), CeCe Toda (9th).

In a late-night thriller at Manning Field, Lynn English’s Woudson Pierre (from Jose Licardie) ripped an early second-half goal to help the Bulldogs (6-4-4) clip Lynn Classical (3-9-3).

Amesbury struck first, but the visiting Pioneers (10-1-5) responded with a pair of first-half goals. Rocco Scenna tied the game on a penalty kick before Johnny Powers tucked the game-winner from distance. Powers’ goal was assisted by Mohammed Ayari.

Hannah Ozanian scored five minutes into the action as Lynnfield (12-2-2) cruised at Pioneer Stadium. Damiani (4 goals) recorded a first-half hat-trick, while Barrett (goal, 3 assists), Antidormi (3 assists), Bella Sykes (assist), and Ella Pascucci (goal) also made plays.
“It’s been a really long time since we’ve had a balanced attack like this – I keep telling them it’s really hard to defend,” said Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont. “It’s impressive and we hope to keep moving the ball.”

Elizabeth Hayes made 11 saves for Marblehead (7-7-3), but its offense couldn’t convert in Gloucester. That said, Marblehead coach Ali Carey credited her players for allowing no goals in the second half.
“Our defense managed to limit Gloucester’s scoring opportunities to the first half of the game, shutting down any potential goals in quarters three and four,” she said. “On the flip side, though, Gloucester’s defense was ready for us and while we had several solid chances, we just couldn’t find the net.”

Through a few tight sets, Tech (14-3) kept rolling with a shutout win against Notre Dame. Set scores were 25-19, 27-25, and 25-15. Leading the Tigers were Zahara Belizaire (14 assists, 9 digs, 4 kills), Lia Morales (15 digs, 4 kills, 2 aces), Mahlyna Williams (12 digs, 6 aces), Katie Tartarini (5 kills, 5 digs, 2 aces), and Kaylee Deschamps (5 kills, 3 digs, 2 aces).

A dominant first set helped catapult the Magicians (15-2) to victory in scores of 25-6, 25-17, and 26-16. Greta Sachs continued to lead Marblehead’s offense with 9 kills, while Lila Moniz and Mari Modrzynska added another four apiece. Eva Burke dished out 22 assists to go with six aces. Sydney Faris led Marblehead from the service line with seven aces and 10 digs.
