The Lynn Classical football team (3-5) forced overtime at Dilboy Stadium Friday night, but couldn’t escape Somerville (6-1) in a 12-6 final. The loss ended a three-game winning streak for first-year coach Brian Smith and the Rams.
Somerville struck first and led the Greater Boston League showdown, 6-0, at halftime. Classical’s Gianni McKay rushed for a 3-yard touchdown to tie the game during the third quarter.
After a scoreless fourth quarter, Classical held possession first in overtime. A holding penalty set things back for the Rams, who then took two shots toward the back of the end zone – to no avail.
On their second offensive play of overtime, the Highlanders scored a rushing touchdown to end the game.
