Nahant scores sports infrastructure upgrades

NAHANT — After Gov. Maura Healey announced the release of all local funding allocated in the $61.01 billion budget, which was passed by the Massachusetts Legislature for Fiscal Year 2026, the Town has gotten $30,000 for upgrades to the little league field by Flash Road.

Town Administrator Alison Nieto noted that she’s happy to see the field’s lights get an upgrade.

“(Past Town Administrator) Tony Barletta originally applied for the funding… I think it’s a great upgrade to a recreational area in town that needs some work,” Nieto said. “The field will have state-of-the-art lighting and hopefully allow for many more people to take advantage of using that field at various times.”

She continued, “Now that we know the earmark has been approved, the funding will be used for the installation of the lights.”

Nieto added that Department of Public Works Superintendent Zach Taylor is putting together the specifications for the lighting installation. Taylor will then go and seek quotes for that work, which entails seeking price estimates from vendors or contractors.

She also explained that a portion of the project is being funded through the Little League Association.

Sen. Brendan Crighton said that delivering a balanced and robust budget in spite of federal turmoil “highlights our commitment to protecting the core values of our Commonwealth.”

He added, “We are proud of this final budget that provides critical funding for transportation, housing, education, and many other services that impact our constituents’ daily lives.”

“Having sports facilities that that can be used by our youth is very important to us,” Crighton said.
