November 5, 2025 by Joey Barrett

It looked as if the No. 10 Marblehead girls soccer team was going to be upset by No. 23 Walpole in Wednesday’s Division 2 Round of 32 matchup, but as they say: That’s why you play the game.

Trailing 2-1 at Piper Field, Sydney Ball tied the game in the 77th minute to keep Marblehead’s season alive. From there, in double overtime, Lucy McDonald netted one from distance to cap off a 3-2 thriller.

Callie Gilmore scored for the Magicians in the first half.

Next up for Marblehead (13-1-5) is a Round of 16 showdown against No. 7 Oliver Ames (Easton).

BOYS SOCCER

No. 7 Old Rochester 3
No. 26 Lynnfield 0

Despite a strong 11-4-5 season for the Pioneers, they bowed out of the Division 3 tournament with a Round of 32 loss at David S. Hagan Stadium. Lynnfield defeated No. 39 Monty Tech in the preliminary round.

“Ben Clancy, our centerback, played well, as did Rocca Scenna and Mohammed Ayari,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe. “We lost today to a better team. The kids played hard and did it all year. There’s a lot to be proud of and the better team won today.”

No. 1 St. John’s Prep 3
No. 33 Algonquin 1

Garrison Murphy was a man on a mission for top-ranked St. John’s Prep, scoring a pair of first-half goals in a Division 1 Round of 32 showdown. James Minor netted an insurance goal in the second half and Ryan King dished out two assists. The Eagles welcome No. 17 Lowell to Glatz Field Saturday at 11 a.m.

No. 1 Boston International 12
No. 32 KIPP 0

Top-ranked Boston International (16-1-2) began its tournament run in style, knocking off the Panthers with an offensive explosion. KIPP finished its season with a 6-10-2 record.
