NAHANT — The Nahant Women’s Club is gearing up for the return of the Holiday Craft Fair on Nov. 29, which will see community members celebrating connection and creativity when the event kicks off at Town Hall.

Slated to go from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., residents will get the chance to mingle with talented local artists and purchase handmade crafts while enjoying the friendly atmosphere.

The event is free for all community members. Proceeds from the fair will be donated to local, national, and international charities that support both women and children. Funds will directly benefit organizations such as Girls Inc. and Donors Choice, a hunger initiative that supports teachers in local communities.

Women’s Club Treasurer Pauline Anderson noted that the fair has been a recurring event for Nahant for more than 20 years. The fair is the club’s main income source for the many local charities that it supports.

“We have three scholarships: one academic and two that go toward the arts, which is pretty unusual… the Donors Choice is a new one that we’ve come across. Teachers can submit what they need, and you can donate a little bit or a lot. We’ve done it for a few different schools,” Anderson said.

She said proceeds from previous fairs helped the Women’s Club acquire backpacks from L.L. Bean, which members then filled with school supplies and gave to students in surrounding communities.

Another point of pride for Anderson was that the Women’s Club has been able to help fund a Ugandan girl’s education, an endeavor the Club has taken on for over six years.

Attendees will be welcome to browse a selection of art, holiday ornaments, home decor, and jewelry. There will also be a silent auction and the always-popular bake table with sweet and savory homemade foods.

“We have about 30 vendors that come to the fair every year. Everything that’s sold has to be made by them… We also have about four or five different nonprofits that will come to the event and have tables at the fair,” Anderson said. “It’s a big deal, and it’s a lot of work.”
