November 21, 2025 by Elizabeth Della Piana

SAUGUS — The School Committee has set the chairs and vice chairs for its subcommittees, officially settling in for the new term.

Chair of the Committee Thomas Whittredge called out the positions for the new subcommittees.

Brian Doherty, one of the new members of the Committee, will be the chair of the Finance Committee, while fellow newcomer Shannon McCarthy will be the vice chair.

For the Building and Facilities Subcommittee, Whittredge will chair, and McCarthy will serve as vice chair.

McCarthy will also serve as chair of the Safety and Transportation Subcommittee, and Whittredge will serve as vice chair.

Committee Vice Chair Stephanie Mastrocola will return as chair of the Policy Subcommittee, while member Dennis Gould will be the vice chair.

Gould will be the chair of the Athletics Subcommittee, and Doherty the vice chair.

Whittredge will chair the Sick Leave Bank Subcommittee with Gould as the vice chair.

Lastly, the Food Service Subcommittee will be chaired by Mastrocola, with Gould as vice chair.

The Committee voted 5-0 to accept the appointments.

“What we’ll do now is we’ll put it out, probably an email, send it out to the public,” Whittredge said in reference to the spots that will need to be filled in the subcommittees. “I believe we have two appointments already on the sports from last year… So there’s one opening. Policy Subcommittee, we have two parent spots on the one.”

He noted that the Finance Subcommittee has an at-large spot that is to be determined.

“Once we get letters of interest, we’ll look them over and then we’ll make nominations,” he said.
