LYNN — Board of Health Chairman Ron Dupuis is retiring from his position after 30 years of service.
Dupuis announced the news at the Board of Health meeting on Tuesday, where he delivered a farewell speech thanking his constituents and the city.
“Together, we have been involved in many issues, from smoking, to tattoos, to COVID. And we’ve always found our way,” Dupuis said.
Dupuis reflected on his three decades of hard work.
“People sometimes question why I would want to be on the board. The best reason is meeting new people and developing working relationships with them. We also get to meet citizens at the times where we’re able to assist and educate. My intent has always been to be fair and transparent at all of our board’s affairs,” he said.
He then wished the best for everyone on the board going forward.
“I leave with a heavy heart knowing that I tried my best and knowing that Lynn Board of Health and the health department are in very good hands in every fashion. The department will grow and get better every day as it’s doing so now,” Dupuis said.
As a surprise, Mayor Jared Nicholson presented Dupuis with a citation from his office, while State Rep. Dan Cahill presented citations from the House of Representatives and the Senate. City Clerk Janet Rowe wrapped up the farewell event by presenting a citation from City Council.
Nicholson said, “The Board of Health plays an immensely important role in our community. It tackles weighty and challenging issues. I’m so grateful for your leadership, your commitment, and your service to the residents of our city and their health.”
Cahill said, “As someone who grew up with you being very much involved in the community, the amount of work that you’ve done for the Board of Health to make the city healthier, brighter, and more sustainable, we really appreciate it, and we’re going to miss you.”
Dupuis, who was deeply moved, gave his appreciation for the recognition before his final meeting on the Board of Health.
“Thank you all so much. It means more to me than you could ever imagine. I’m into appreciation; I’m not into the spotlight. This means a lot to me and my family,” he said.
As for what’s next for Dupuis in his retirement?
“Gardening, golf, and whatever my wife wants me to do,” he said.
