SAUGUS — Every year, the upstairs floor of the Kowloon Restaurant transforms into something out of a holiday movie with stacks of toys covering the walls and the floor.
The toy drive is spearheaded by Sen. Sal DiDomenico and the DiDomenico Foundation. The Boston Bruins Foundation has also become involved in the event, as have other local officials.
The DiDomenico Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports youth throughout Massachusetts with scholarships and the annual toy drive.
Before the “Wall of Toys” can be built, a pack of volunteers go out and shop for toys for the drive. This year, more than $50,000 worth of toys were purchased. The toys were then loaded onto trucks and brought to Kowloon.
On Tuesday, after shopping was completed, the wall went up, and Kowloon hosted a party to celebrate the great effort.
In the next two weeks, these toys will be shipped off to kids in need to help make the holiday season a little brighter.
The Wong Family hosts this annual event and stated that they are proud to be a part of giving during the holiday season.
