Mother turns to Santa for holiday cheer

Zach Laird

December 15, 2025 by Zach Laird

Every child and parent should be able to experience the feelings of excitement and wonder that fills everyone’s heart during the countdown to Christmas morning.

A mother who wrote to Item Santa this year is looking to spread that same sense of joy to her children as the holiday approaches. Like every parent, she wants to make this year special for her kids.

She noted her struggles to reach that goal, explaining that she’s currently living in a shelter and that it’s been hard to find a job to support her family. This mother has three children and does all she can to support them day-to-day, but she’s looking for help to make sure her kids have presents waiting for them under the Christmas tree.

“This year has been really difficult for me because I am a single mom and without a job. It’s hard to get my kids gifts this year,” she said. “I will really appreciate your help this year, thank you.”

Now in its 59th year, the Item Santa Fund helps bring Christmas joy to local residents in need. The Item collects donations while The Salvation Army purchases and distributes toys and essentials to approved families in the area.

To give, please clip the coupon in The Daily Item and send it with your check to:

The Item Salvation Army Santa

85 Exchange St.

Lynn, MA 01901

Online contributions can also be made at salvationarmyma.org/itemsanta, where donors may choose to have their names acknowledged. All donations will be printed in The Item throughout December and into early 2026, with space for a brief message from donors who wish to include one.

For questions regarding eligibility, gift distribution, or scheduling, contact the Salvation Army at 781-598-0673.
