NAHANT — The Police Department delivered a Humvee full of presents to the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn Tuesday morning as a part of its annual “Stuff A Cruiser” toy drive.
Police Chief Timothy Furlong, Police Sgt. Andrew Constantine, Town Administrator Alison Nieto, and Emergency Management Assistant Director Carl Maccario greeted the staff at 9 a.m. sharp to unload the trove of donations collected from the community.
Senior Grants Manager Jodi Furlong explained it’s the fourth year that the Boys & Girls Club has collaborated with the department on the toy drive, and each year the donations have grown in size.
“Getting these gifts from the Town of Nahant is amazing. It helps all the kids to have such a great holiday season, and it warms my heart doing it every year,” Jodi Furlong said. “I just want to thank everyone for their contributions over the years, and especially this year, because I feel like the kids need it more than ever this year.”
Nieto said the Police Department does a great job of running the toy drive each year. She added she feels it’s important to help others this time of the year.
“You can tell how important this is to everyone in the community by the number of gifts that came in,” she said.
The group took turns filling bags with everything from Play-Doh, toy cars, and stuffed animals to bring them inside. When all the presents were neatly stacked, they took up a majority of one of the classrooms. Afterward, the Boys & Girls Club took a moment to show gratitude toward the department and presented them a huge “Thank you” banner.
Director of Communications and Special Events Erica Sousa said that it’s nice to see the Police Department provide for the kids during the holiday.
Timothy Furlong said the amount of toys donated is a reflection of Nahant’s generosity.
“It’s amazing to see the event get bigger and bigger every year. The people of Nahant definitely have hearts of gold. If you ask them for something, they come through every time,” he said.
