Among the many letters received by Item Santa this season is one from a mother whose family has endured a year defined by medical uncertainty, emotional exhaustion, and financial strain. Her words reflect both the weight of caring for a seriously ill child, and a quiet hope for a moment of happiness during the holidays.
She explains that her daughter has been fighting a serious medical condition that has dominated much of their lives.
“Dear Santa, my daughter has epilepsy and has struggled with her illness. This summer, she has had two different surgeries on her brain since a lot of our time is spent in hospitals.”
Between doctor visits, procedures, and recovery, everyday life has been put on hold. The financial consequences have followed closely behind.
“Economically, we are struggling very much with bills, rent, and food… My family is in deep debt, and would appreciate any help for gifts for my daughter and family.”
With no outside assistance, even small comforts have become unreachable.
“We have no financial help, which leaves us with no extra for any gifts.”
Despite everything her daughter has endured, this mother’s wish is heartbreakingly simple: to give her child a reason to smile.
“I would love for her to wake up and be able to smile with gifts under the tree. With everything she’s been through, it’s a daily struggle for her and the burden on my family.”
Her letter serves as a reminder that behind every request is a family doing their best under extraordinary circumstances — and that sometimes, a few gifts can bring light into an otherwise overwhelming season.
