You know what I’ve been thinking? It’s hard to start much better than that.
A week into the girls basketball season, Peabody stands at 3-0 with wins against Beverly (67-24 final), Masconomet (68-40), and Swampscott (41-38).
That’s a 176-102 point-differential in favor of the Tanners — not bad.
In the opener against Beverly, Peabody netted 40 first-half points. Olivia Gaynor (22 points, 5 steals) and Sophia Coburn (13 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks) led the charge.
Then came a 28-point triumph against the Chieftains as Peabody buried 11 from downtown. Aliana Ryan (20 points, 5 assists, 4 steals), Gaynor (17 points, 5 assists), and Avery Bettencourt (10 points, 4 steals) did most of the damage.
“A complete-game effort from the Tanners, from start to finish,” said coach Stan McKeen.
Last Friday, on enemy hardwood, the Tanners escaped Swampscott in a one-possession game. Bettencourt stayed hot with another 15 points. McKeen called it “a very hard-fought game from start to finish” against the Big Blue.
Tanners, good week.
