It was a busy week for the Lynnfield-North Reading wrestling team, which took part in Saturday’s Pentucket Holiday Tournament. LNR finished 12th of 21 teams with 101 points as tri-captain David Glynn (4-0) won his 100th career match.
“We were all very excited with David’s win,” said coach Craig Stone. “He has worked so hard throughout his career and has come so close to standing on the top step of the awards podium. Today, he did.”

Lynn Classical won Sunday morning’s Walter J. Boverini Basketball Tournament consolation game behind 29 points from Shy Babb and 25 from Davon Rucker. The Rams upped their record to 4-1, while the Bulldogs fell to 1-4.

In a battle of undefeated teams kicking off the Boverini tournament, the Spartans handed the Rams their first loss of the season behind 30 points from Rolky Brea-Arias, who transferred from Classical. John Chareas netted another 20 points for St. Mary’s.

Red-hot Lynnfield used 16 triples to take down visiting Bishop Fenwick. Leading the Pioneers (3-1) were Grant Neal (25 points), Cam Chisholm (14), and Justin Flores (13), while the Crusaders were paced by Damon Mataragas (17) and Vincent Finocchio (14).

Behind three double-digit scorers in Thad Broughton Jr., Ian Salazar, and Marc Mendonca, the Tanners (1-4) secured their first victory of the season. Cory Dooley, Jeremiah Agbonavbare, and Jack Smith also played well.

Fenwick (3-0) took care of business Sunday afternoon at Oliver Ames. Celia Neilson (17 points, 5 assists, 5 steals) and Caitlin Boyle (6 points, 17 rebounds, 5 steals) led the charge, followed by Brittney Figulski (9 points, 4 steals), Reese Spurchise (7 points, 5 steals), and Taisha Castillo (6 points, 6 rebounds). The Crusaders take on Walpole in Monday’s Sue Rivard Tournament championship game.

The Peabody-Saugus-Swampscott co-op team defeated St. Bernard’s 3-2 Saturday to claim the Lynn Christmas Tournament title. PSS defeated the host Lynn Jets 5-2 in Friday’s opening round.

Lynn “gave a good all-around effort,” as said by coach Brian Boisson, but his Jets were on the losing end against Latin Academy. Goals were scored by Denim Dembro (first varsity goal), Aaron Cook, and Jacoby Comeau. Nathan Silva recorded two assists, while Nicholas DeNino made 52 saves.

The Pioneers had a one-goal lead through two periods, but couldn’t hold on against a gritty Hanover group. Lynnfield was led by Lucas Deraps (goal), Brendan Driscoll (goal), Anthony Calla (goal), Sam Curley (2 assists), and Michael Marenghi (38 saves).

In the consolation game of the Cape Ann Savings Bank Holiday Hockey Tournament, Marblehead fell despite Holden Ferreira scoring his first varsity goal. Ryan Angilly also found the back of the net, while Bowden Laramie (24 saves) made the all-tournament team.
