The Marblehead boys basketball team fell to Northeastern Conference rival Masconomet, 58-55, at home Monday evening. Marblehead dropped to 4-2 on the season following the overtime loss to the Chieftains.
Marblehead was led by senior Rylan Golden, who returned to the lineup and finished with 13 points. Cam Weaver and Finn Baron also scored 13 points apiece.
The difference came at the free-throw line. Masconomet made 20 of 29 free throws, while Marblehead struggled, shooting 50% (14 of 28).

The Big Blue (5-2) relied on their defense late to escape Somerville with a four-point victory.
Senior captain Sam Ward recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Anna Kanders added 10 points and six assists, while Cecilia Tripp finished with eight points and “a strong defensive effort,” according to coach Katelyn Leonard.

It was a tough night for the Magicians, who suffered a 20-point road loss.
Marblehead entered the game riding a four-game winning streak after dropping its season opener. The Magicians will look to bounce back Monday against Notre Dame Academy-Hingham.
BOYS HOCKEY

Lynn 3
Despite the final score, the game was competitive early between Medford and the Lynn Jets.
Lynn controlled the first period, but two unfortunate bounces gave Medford a two-goal lead. The Jets responded in the second period, cutting the deficit to one and trailing 3-2 entering the third.
Lynn struggled to generate shots in the third period, and Medford took advantage.
Aaron Cook finished with two goals and an assist, while Anthony Alessi also scored. Nathan Silva, Marc Posts and eighth-grader Dylan O’Connell each recorded an assist. The assist was O’Connell’s first varsity point.
