LYNNFIELD — Arnold Radway, of Horseshoe Drive, Lynnfield, recently received a certificate for seventy-five years of Continuous Membership in The American Legion. For this, Radway was honored in a ceremony held at his home on Wednesday, March 3rd.
Lynnfield Post 131 Commander Tom Bogart and others were on hand to present the certificate to Radway. Radway, an Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War, has been a resident of Lynnfield for over seventy years.
Along with the certificate, the spry and chipper retired insurance executive also received many gifts for his involvement in The American Legion, including an American Legion uniform cap and other legion regalia, and an etching of his name on the Lynnfield Veterans Memorial.
Bogart said, “It gives me immense joy to present this to you on behalf of Post 131 and a grateful nation. We are proud to be associated with you through our mutual association, and we wish you and your family the absolute best.”
Lynnfield Veterans Services Officer Bruce Seigel offered his support, saying, “Congratulations, Mr. Radway. It is an honor and a pleasure to help you celebrate this important milestone of 75 years of continuous membership in The American Legion. You represent the very best of America. On behalf of all Lynnfield veterans, I thank you for your service.”
National American Legion Commander Dan K. Wiley echoed Bogart’s sentiments by saying in a letter to Radway, “surpassing this milestone (75 years) in The American Legion exemplifies the endurance of our organization as the leading advocate for veterans’ rights and benefits. Your American Legion very much appreciates your continuing support and proves that veterans like you are strengthening America.” Also in attendance were past Commander of Lynnfield Post 131, Jack Lukas, and American Legion District 8 Commander Peter Whitman, who is also the Commander of Andover Post 8.
Radway is among the longest living veterans in the country.
