Mayor extends Lynn’s overnight curfew

By Gayla Cawley | May 6, 2020

LYNN — The city’s overnight curfew has been extended until May 18.

Mayor Thomas M. McGee and the city’s Public Health Director Michele Desmarais have signed an order extending several executive orders that went into effect last month, according to a notice from McGee’s office.

The new order extends the city’s curfew, which prohibits residents from being outside their homes between the hours of 9 p.m.-6 a.m. with the exception of essential employees or residents who need medical care, along with past orders for social behavior and essential services.

The extension, which applies to orders that have mandated face coverings, closed non-essential businesses, and prohibited customers from entering restaurants and other food establishments, is aimed at being consistent with Gov. Charlie Baker’s statewide directives, according to McGee’s office.

Included in the new order is an additional restriction on convenience stores, which prohibits store employees or customers from preparing food or drinks inside the establishments, according to McGee’s office.

A failure to comply with those orders is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000.
