LYNN – Healing Abuse Working for Change (HAWC) is launching its Community C.A.R.E. Campaign this October in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM).
Through the campaign, HAWC is raising awareness about domestic abuse and empowering communities to take part in creating a future free from violence.
The C.A.R.E. Campaign—which stands for Community Awareness, Resources, and Empowerment—encourages individuals, organizations, and local leaders to help spread the word that help is available and no one is alone.
“Domestic violence affects people from every background and every neighborhood,” said Julie Gerraughty, Director of Development at HAWC. “By coming together as a community, sharing resources, and raising awareness, we can make a real difference in ensuring that survivors are supported and empowered.”
Throughout October, HAWC and four community volunteers will distribute more than 450 packets of vital information and resources across the North Shore to 40 businesses and organizations where someone may disclose abuse. The information includes hotline cards, info cards about our free services as well as suggestions on what to say should someone disclose. This campaign focuses on educating the public about recognizing abuse, accessing support services, and promoting healthy, respectful relationships.
“We know that people don’t always make their way to HAWC. Often they will seek support from the people that they already know. We want to empower people with the information they need when someone discloses to them that they are experiencing abuse. Having materials out is a great way to raise awareness and allow someone to pick up the information without disclosing as well,” said HAWC Executive Director Sara Stanley.
HAWC invites everyone to take part in the C.A.R.E. Campaign by learning more about domestic abuse and following HAWC on social media to help spread awareness. Together, we can build a resilient and compassionate community where every individual knows that safety, healing, and hope are possible.
