LYNN — The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund has announced a major expansion of The Gordon Hall III Family Foundation Scholarship Program beginning in the 2026-27 school year.
Gordon Hall III, who passed away in 2022, has left a legacy gift that will enable the program to award approximately half a million dollars annually, specifically to Lynn students.
Hall was a long-time owner and operator of real estate in Lynn and the surrounding communities. He was the founder of The Hall Company in Lynn, which provides professional real estate management and consulting services. He was also involved in numerous charitable endeavors throughout Boston’s North Shore and New England, including a $500,000 donation to North Shore Medical Center’s Department of Cardiology in 2020.
The Gordon Hall III Family Foundation Scholarship Program was launched in 2022 to support Lynn and Marblehead students with a gift from Gordon and his wife, Taffy Knowlton Hall.
“Gordon had strong ties to Lynn and was very committed to giving back to the community in a lasting and meaningful way. Supporting Lynn students in their pursuit of education is a legacy that truly reflects his values,” said Barbara Welles Iler, executive director of the Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund.
She added, “He was a big believer in the value of higher education, and he saw that as a meaningful way to support the Lynn community. We see the gift as very transformative, as it is a way to uplift the community. It’s a very appropriate way for him to have a lasting legacy on the Lynn community.”
His son, Gordon R. Hall, gave his insight as to what the contribution would have meant to his late father.
“He would be really pleased that it will help kids who would otherwise not be able to afford to go to certain schools. He knew not everybody was born into good educational opportunities. It helps level the playing field,” he said.
Applications will open up in December. For more information, please visit the Phillips Scholarship website or contact Barbara Welles Iler at [email protected].
