You know what I’ve been thinking? Running back Maxwell Parent has been a man on a mission for St. John’s Prep this season, but Friday takes the cake.
The explosive ball-carrier made the most of his touches, carrying 30 times for 355 yards rushing (school record) and five touchdowns in the top-ranked Eagles’ 48-32 win against No. 8 Leominster.
Imagine if high school fantasy football was a thing?
With Prep quarterback Christopher Vargas sidelined due to an injury, Parent’s role increased offensively. With stiff-arms and shifty maneuvers, the St. Mary’s transfer scored four second-half touchdowns to put a lid on Leominster.
Better yet, the Eagles (10-0) stayed perfect behind coach Brian St. Pierre. They take on No. 5 Central Catholic (7-3) in the Division 1 semifinals Friday at Burlington High with kickoff slated for 6 p.m. The final four teams are St. John’s Prep, No. 2 Springfield Central, No. 3 Xaverian Brothers, and Central Catholic.
Will Parent keep his foot on the gas, or will the Eagles fly into trouble against Central Catholic?
Time will tell.
Maxwell, good week.
