LYNNFIELD — Lynnfield resident Bryan Mallett, who previously ran the Boston Marathon to raise money for Massachusetts General Hospital’s Hepatic Arterial Infusions Program, will run again this year to continue supporting the cause. Last year, he also held a successful cornhole tournament to raise funds, and the event is back this year.
The cornhole tournament will be held Saturday, Jan. 10 from 5-10 p.m. at the Elks Club, 63 Bay State Road, in Wakefield. The event is limited to adults 18 and older.
Mallett is running in memory of Sharla Sieve, who died Dec. 7, 2022, from stage 4 metastatic colorectal cancer. Mallett has described Sieve as a “second mother” to him.
Sieve’s youngest daughter, Olivia, created a fundraiser to support a new program at MGH aimed at making hepatic arterial infusions more widely available. The fundraiser has raised more than $123,000 as of October 2024.
This will be Mallett’s fourth marathon in two years. He recently ran the Chicago Marathon, finishing the course in three hours and 28 minutes.
Tickets to the event can be purchased on eventbrite.com with the title “For Sharla . . . Cornhole Tournament to raise money for The Boston Marathon.”
