Bishop Fenwick’s girls basketball team (1-0) doubled up Newton South — and then some — in Wednesday’s season opener. Through a 64-30 final, captains Caitlin Boyle (20 points, 7 rebounds) and Celia Neilson (17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists) led by example. They were followed by Brittany Figulski and Kyleigh Pidgeon, who collected eight rebounds apiece.

With a “complete-game effort,” according to Peabody coach Stan McKeen, his Tanners netted 11 threes and defeated Masconomet. The team was led by Aliana Ryan (20 points, 5 assists, 4 steals), Olivia Gaynor (17 points, 5 assists), Avery Bettencourt (10 points, 4 steals), Sophia Coburn (8 points, 7 blocks), Lizzie Bettencourt, Ava Ryan, and Olivia Ball.

After trailing by a pair of goals, the Jets (0-1) fought back, but fell at Veterans Memorial Rink. AJ Cook netted his first varsity goal, while Marc Poste added another. Brian Boisson dished out an assist and Nicholas DeNino made 23 saves.

Host Archbishop Williams shot out to 1-0 and 3-1 leads against the Spartans (2-1), who received goals from Aiden St. Pierre and Colton Carpenter.
