NAHANT – The Nahant 10 year old All-Stars defeated Swampscott 8-7 to win the District 16 Tournament last week and will now play for the Massachusetts Little League Section 4 Championship.The visiting Swampscott team scored three runs in the first and one in the second, taking a 4-0 lead.Nahant’s Seamus Foley scored in the second to cut the lead to 4-1. Swampscott scored two more in the fourth to push its lead to 6-1.Aidan Graciale settled down on the mound and recorded nine strikeouts before reaching his pitch limit in the fifth. With two out in the fourth, Nahant finally came alive at the plate. Doubles by Max Gadon and Aidan Graciale and singles from Drew Botta, Isabella Cesso, Billy Conigliaro and Jake Desmarais pushed six runs across the plate giving Nahant a 7-6 lead.Swampscott scored in the fifth to tie it at 7-7. Brian Thompson lead off the fifth with a walk and Sam Reenstierna followed with a single, moving to third.An overthrow sent Thompson home, giving Nahant its margin of victory.Jake Desmarais took the mound in the sixth and struck out the first Swampscott batter. The next batter singled, but a pop to short and fly ball to left sealed the win.For Swampscott, Nate Marston and Matt Schroder each scored twice, and Nate DeRoche, Pierce Friedman, Dylan Dubiel and Patrick Carroll also scored.
