PEABODY – A Peabody man accused of opium trafficking and money laundering was sentenced to over six years in federal prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to nine charges in U.S. District Court.Luigi Passanisi, 35, formerly of 300 Roosevelt St., Peabody, pled guilty prior to his arraignment earlier this month on one count of possession of Oxycodone with intent to distribute, one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, one count of possession of Hydrocodone with intent to distribute and six counts of money laundering stemming from his March 2006 arrest.Peabody Police, Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, the Drug Task Force and the Internal Revenue Service arrested Passanisi and his girlfriend, Stefana Mullen, on March 22, 2006 after an investigation into their role in a local drug trafficking ring.Police learned of the couple’s role in January of 2006 when Passanisi was shot four times, once in the face, during a drug deal at his home. Christopher Dalomba, 33, has since been arrested for the shooting that temporarily put Passanisi in a coma.When police arrived at the home after a neighbor’s 911 call, they found 560 80-milligram OxyContin pills, 360 Vicodin pills, over a pound of marijuana and $7,624 in cash. Authorities estimated the total street value of the drugs at over $50,000.The money laundering charges, investigated by the IRS, stem from six separate transactions of drug money into a business account registered to A&R Landscaping of Peabody.Passanisi has been in federal custody since Jan. 18, and his sentence will be retroactive until that date. Court papers also indicated that he could receive credit for time spent in state custody since July 26, 2007.Passanisi will attend a 500-hour residential drug abuse program, and will be assigned to the Federal Medical Center at Fort Devens.
