SALEM – A Salem man accused of raping a 5-year-old girl in his home remains free on conditions that he wear a GPS-equipped electronic ankle bracelet and stay out of the city of Lynn.Richard Gouker, 55, of 2 Marion Road, entered his plea of innocent Thursday in Salem Superior Court to a charge of rape of a child, a crime that carries a possible life sentence.As recommended by the prosecutor and defense, Judge Howard J. Whitehead set the same terms of his release as previously set in district court.Gouker was ordered to wear a GPS-electronic ankle bracelet and to stay out of the city of Lynn, where the child now resides.In addition, the judge also ordered Gouker not have any unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16, except his son, and report every 14 days to the probation department until his case is resolved.The charge concerns an incident at his home on or about Aug. 5, 2007 when Gouker allegedly raped the child, who was staying in his home at the time.The case came to light in August when the girl?s mother became concerned while watching Gouker playing with the child.When the 5-year-old was confronted by her mother, she reportedly described a series of incidents in which Gouker allegedly penetrated her.Following an investigation Gouker was arrested and charged.When Salem police questioned Gouker he denied the charge and said the child is lying.The girl and her mother have since moved from the home and are now living in Lynn.Gouker is the boyfriend of a relative, according to reports.He is due back in court on May 29 for a pretrial conference.
