SALEM – A Lynn man facing a mandatory five years in prison if convicted of dealing ecstasy remains held at the Middleton Jail.In Salem Superior Court Friday afternoon, James Lloyd, 44, of 127 Washington St., #6, pleaded innocent to possession with the intent to distribute Class B narcotics, subsequent offense; possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, subsequent offense, and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor.Judge David A. Lowy set bail at $5,000, but the defense may seek a bail review at another court date.At about 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 6, police said they found Lloyd slumped behind the wheel of a Hyundai Sonata on Washington Street with the engine still running.It appeared he had hit a parked vehicle in front of him.Police said they could smell a strong odor of alcohol and marijuana on him as they tried to waken him.A bottle of alcohol also was apparently inside the vehicle.During a search, police said they found a bag containing 35 ecstasy pills along with marijuana.Because Lloyd previously was convicted of drug distribution, he faces a minimum mandatory punishment of five years in state prison, if convicted.He is due back in court on June 16 for a pretrial conference.Assistant District Attorney Karen H. Hopwood is prosecuting the case for the commonwealth and Alison T. Bloomquist is the defense lawyer.
