SALEM – A Lynn man and a Peabody resident have been indicted on separate cases involving narcotics and firearm crimes by an Essex County grand jury.Kenny McDonald, 30, of 14 Perkins St., #2, Lynn, is charged with possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, trafficking over 100 grams of cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.Charges stem from a raid at his apartment on April 19 when Lynn police said they found over 100 grams of cocaine and a .22 semi-automatic Smith & Wesson firearm concealed in a wall.McDonald faces a minimum mandatory punishment of 10 years in prison on the drug trafficking charge and another mandatory 15-year sentence in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, if convicted on those two charges.Assistant District Attorney Michael A. Patten is assigned to prosecute the case for the commonwealth.Also indicted:Danncy Rivera Perez, 30, of 2 McIntire Court, Apt. 2, Peabody, charged with trafficking over 28 grams of heroin stems from his arrest in Salem on the afternoon of May 30 when police stopped Rivera-Perez on Jackson Street. With the aid of a drug-sniffing dog, police reportedly found over 28 grams of heroin inside a hiding place in a dashboard air vent of the vehicle he was driving.A conviction on the charge carries a minimum mandatory punishment of seven years in state prison.Assistant District Attorney Kristen R. Buxton is prosecuting the case for the commonwealth.Indictments are not an indication of guilt: rather a grand jury found sufficient evidence to warrant a jury trial in Superior Court, allowing for a more severe punishment.
