SALEM – A Lynn man accused of severely beating an elderly citizen at the Pine Grove Cemetery two months ago, causing numerous fractures and blinding him in his left eye, was indicted Friday afternoon by an Essex County grand jury.Mark Raza, 39, of 75 Silsbee St., #107, faces charges of mayhem, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, (shod foot and a cement fountain), assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and assault and battery.The charges concern an incident at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn on the night of May 9 when Raza apparently attacked a 73-year-old Lynn man.The victim sustained facial fractures, broken ribs and is now blind in his left eye as a result of the incident.The two, known to each other, reportedly were visiting a relative’s gravesite when Raza attacked the elderly man.Assistant District Attorney Kim Faitella is prosecuting the case for the commonwealth.The indictments handed up by the grand jury now move the case from Lynn District Court, where Raza pleaded innocent, to Salem Superior Court.
