LYNN – Animal Control Officer Kevin Farnsworth said he is currently investigating a tip from an anonymous caller about Thursday’s dog attack in the hope of catching the suspect and his bloodthirsty dog.Confident the suspect would be found based on the tip, Farnswo-rth said he is closing in on the suspect.”The call was left on our answering service and told us to check out a specific neighborhood and address,” he said. “I can’t release the name yet, but I will say the suspect is definitely located in the same neighborhood as the victim.”On Aug. 20, Beacon Hill Avenue resident Kathleen Clem suffered a fractured right hand in the early morning attack at the Cook Street Playground.According to a police report, the suspect and his dog, which Farnsworth said fit the description of a pit bull, lunged at Clem and her German shepherd and bit her hand as she tried to shield her dog.Off-duty police officer James McIntyre, who is also Clem’s landlord, responded to her screams as she was being attacked and pepper sprayed the aggressive animal twice.Farnsworth said the dog backed off after he was sprayed, but that the owner then scooped up his dog and quickly ran away.”Her dog is OK, and she has a hand wound, but if it wasn’t for that officer (McIntyre) it could have been a lot worse,” he said.If the suspect and the animal are located, Farnsworth said the standard 10-day quarantine would apply, including a hearing process regarding the dog’s status.”I would actually recommend the dog be banned from the city because of the way the owner picked it up and then bolted,” he said.Following the attack, Clem received rabies shots at Union Hospital.
