SAUGUS – Faisel Abdi Ibrahim was held without bail Monday on a slew of charges, not the least of which were aggravated rape and kidnapping.
Ibrahim, 36, of Boston was arrested Sunday after police spotted a young woman trying to jump from moving Ford Windstar on Route 1 North.
According to Police Lt. Mike Annese, Ibrahim allegedly kidnapped a 19-year-old college student in another community, raped her and took off up Route 1 with the woman still in the car.
Ibrahim holds a hackney license, but Annese said the car he was driving wasn’t a cab.
Saugus officer Stephen McCarthy was behind the vehicle and spotted the female’s repeated attempts to jump from the car. Annese said McCarthy pulled Ibrahim over near Applebee’s Restaurant, just before the Walnut Street exit around 2:45 a.m. Sunday.
Ibrahim has been charged with an unnatural act, aggravated rape, kidnapping, driving with a suspended registration and an uninsured motor vehicle.
Arraigned in Lynn District Court Monday, he stood stoically, occasionally scanning the courtroom and only speaking to ask for a court appointed lawyer.
Judge Dunbar Livingston ordered him to be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 16.
Annese had little else to say on the incident except to praise McCarthy for what he called a great piece of police work and that the investigation is ongoing.
