LYNN – Those who wish to celebrate the life of the late Sen. Walter J. Boverini can do so Wednesday, when Channel 15 sportscaster John Hoffman holds a memorial for him at the station’s Breed Middle School studio.Hoffman said anyone who wants to talk about Boverini, his contributions, and his accomplishments, is welcome to attend and express their sentiments in front of the camera.”We don’t want to leave anyone out who would want to be a part of it,” said Hoffman. The broadcast, which will be taped and aired at a later date, begins at 4 p.m. and runs “however long it takes,” Hoffman said.”We want to hear stories about his impact on the area and then make a TV program out of it,” he said. “We intend to follow through on it and give a copy to the family.”Those wishing to attend should look for the door directly behind the on-deck circle next to the third base dugout at Breed’s Rogato softball field. There will be a sign on the door that says “Sports Weekly,” which is the title of Hoffman’s weekly high school sports show on Channel 15. Hoffman adds, however, this is not necessarily a sports show.”It’s a special program,” he said. “We’re just looking to get as many people as we can.”Boverini’s family will be among those attending, Hoffman said.Hoffman’s done this several times before, most notably when former Lynn Tech athlete Rick Drislane died in an auto accident in 1987. He’s also had memorials for former school superintendent J. Leo McGuinness; former FBI agent Paul Cavanagh, for whom the Lynn English fieldhouse is named; and former St. Mary’s and North Reading basketball coach Vin Olivo.Hoffman also hosted a special telecast for those wishing to reminisce about the old Manning Bowl before it was torn down.
